Widespread poverty on the Marshall Islands is a natural result of high unemployment rates and a low minimum wage.
Few options for work contribute to feelings of hopelessness and lead to drug and alcohol abuse or in extreme cases, suicide. Children are deeply affected by these economic challenges. Malnutrition, poor quality of education, and limited job prospects threaten their motivation and performance in school.
The Rita After-School Program brings hope to at-risk children in the community by providing holistic care, protection and academic support so they can thrive.
As a sponsor, you provide:
You support healthy child development by providing nutritious meals and enriching social activities.
You keep children protected and out of harm's way in a safe, supervised environment.
You provide tutoring and encouragement that prepares children to lead successful and fulfilled lives.
WHAT DOES MY $25 A MONTH DO?
Your sponsorship directly meets the critical needs of the children (food, shelter, medical care, education and vocational training) at a Salvation Army center, funding long-term programs and projects which ensure we provide essential services to the children for years to come. Your donation will benefit the center of your choice for as long as they are participating in the child sponsorship program, and will also meet urgent needs at other centers as they arise.
